The Strengthing and refurbishment of the Foyle Bridge involved the fabrication of 1200m of 508mm diameter by 50mm thick hallow tubes, attached to the bottom flange of the steel box. These tubes were prestressed with loads in the region of 1000 tonnes.

The bridge was painted, resurfaced and maintenance carried out to the parapets, safety Fencing, bridge bearings and expansion joints.
